Candidate for Woodburn School Board, Position 1
About Lonnie
I’m running for School Board to ensure every student—no matter their background—gets a quality education that prepares them for life.
I worked for decades in union jobs as a water utility foreman, represented fellow workers as a Shop Steward, and taught certification classes. I’ve also volunteered as a youth coach, church member, and with a Kiwanis High School Key Club.
Like many in Woodburn, I don’t have a college degree. I’ve worked blue collar jobs—sometimes more than one at a time—and I understand the value of preparing students for college, trades, or the workforce.
My wife and I chose Woodburn as our home. As a parent and grandparent, I care deeply about our schools and community.
On the board, I’ll focus on strong academics, safe schools, and listening to families—with common sense and respect.
Priorities for Woodburn Schools
With a long history of working alongside union members—and as a parent and grandparent—I bring these core values to my work on the school board:
Every student—no matter their background—deserves a quality education that prepares them for success in life, whether through college, a trade, or entering the workforce.
We must raise academic performance by focusing on core skills like reading, writing, and math.
The path to success starts with supporting our teachers and staff, the backbone of our schools.
School safety must be improved to protect both students and staff.
Transparency and respect for parents is critical to foster trust and productive community dialogue.

“Lonnie is the real deal. He doesn’t want to be a politician or aspire for higher elected office. He’s answering the call to refocus our schools on what kids need. Period.”
—Former Woodburn School Board Director Santiago Puente
“Lonnie brings decades of hands-on experience working with people and solving problems. He’s ready to listen, learn, and lead with common sense and respect.”
—Former Woodburn State Representative Tracy Cramer
